Back to preschool

Kyle went back to preschool on Wednesday. It’s his 3rd year in preschool and he is the oldest in the class. He knew the routine well and was able to show the younger kids what they needed to do. He led the way to the preschool room, walked in and put his backpack into his cubby. Then he went to the sink and washed his hands before grabbing the chair that they had him sit in last year, because all he wanted to do was lay on the floor, sat down and picked out a book and started looking at the pictures. We accompanied him to the room, but at that point we decided that he didn’t need us there and left. When we picked him up his teachers said he had a good day. The only thing on his mind is that his friends, from last year, the kids his age, were not there. They got to move up to kindergarten, while he is still in preschool. But he will move up next year.

So, having all 4 kids back in school is hard. I miss them so much, but it allows for thinking and research for blogging, plus the normal housework that needs done whether kids are here or not, and let me tell you, it is so much easier without the kids underfoot. Since I wasn’t feeling so well this particular day, with my blood pressure elevated, it allowed me to rest some. I don’t like the way high BP makes me feel, so light-headed and I can barely stand. But this post is about Kyle going back to school.

Sean was off in order to take care of the kids and me, so I didn’t have to go pick the kids up. I stayed in bed while Sean picked them up. Kyle came home and gave me a BIG hug. I asked him how his day was, and his only concern was that Caleb wasn’t in his class this year. Caleb was one of his friends last year and one of the kids that moved up to Kindergarten. It broke my heart hearing him talk about missing his friends from last year. And from here on out, he’s going to be with kids a year younger than him, because he will be 6 in Kindergarten and to me, that’s too old to be starting. My thought is to try and homeschool him with Kindergarten curriculum this year and then try and get him in 1st with kids his age next year. So I picked some stuff up that I will push through the school year, but he’s a stubborn boy. He may or may not cooperate with me. It’s worth a try anyway. I know a number of people who homeschool their kids, so I hope it works for him.
