The Adventures of Frank and Diesel are a series of children’s stories about two dogs who set off on different adventures.  They are written for young children and early readers.  I find, however, that my older children find them fun to read as well.  I was sent “The Adventures of Frank and Diesel: Trick or Treat” in e-book form to read to my kids.  The pictures on the book are so adorable, bright and kid friendly.  The dogs and a boy named Sam dress up to go trick or treating.  The book introduces you to what you might actually see on Halloween night when your kids are out trick or treating.

They see ghosts and goblins, a witch stirring a pot, pumpkins and a black cat.  The book rhymes and is so fun to read.  Your kids will love learning about halloween while reading this book.  Young kids can sometimes be scared when going out trick or treating.  This book can show how scary things can be scary at first, but funny later.

I read this to Kyle first.  He’s 5 years old.  At first he was kind of scared (he gets scared easily), but as we read it through the second time, we talked about the things that scared him and he could see how scary things can also be fun.  By the end of the second time I read it through to him, he was laughing at all of the things that scared him the first time.

Next I had Leslie, who is 8 read it to me.   The simple words were easy for her to read and she had fun making up voices and noises for the stuff she read about in the book.  After she was done reading it, she said that she loved it, and it was so fun to read.  Her comment was “I don’t know why Kyle was scared, it was funny and I think that all little kids will love this story.  I sure did.  Kyle needs to learn that these things aren’t really real.”

Next I read it to Lorianna, who is 10.  She enjoyed it as well and thought there were very funny parts in the story.  We talked about rhyming words and even came up with other words to rhyme with some of the words.  She said, “It was a funny little book.”  Then she tried reading some of it for herself.  She struggled with some of the words, but eventually read it all the way through.

This book would be a good book for your young child or early readers and the more they read the story and become more familiar with the words, you or the kids can add voices and sounds to it as well.  This makes it so fun to read to kids.  It would be good to read to a group of kids too.  A preschool class or homeschool group.  Have them pick out the rhyming words in the story and come up with other words that rhyme as well.
