Thanksgiving 2018

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s time to prepare for Lorianna’s birthday and then Christmas.  Before we do so though, here is a quick review of our Thanksgiving day.

Since we planned on having it at my Grandmother’s house, I had to go over there to help.  Lorianna also wanted to help, so she came with me.  Sean took us over so that he could have the car and I wouldn’t have to go pick him up later.  When we got there, my grandmother already had the turkey ready to go in the oven.  We went over what we were going to have, what was needed and what she didn’t already have.  I did have to make a run to the store, to get a few last minute items.  While at the store, I thanked a few of the employees for working, because I know they really would have much rather been home with their families too.  When I got back from the store, we started getting some of the stuff ready to go in the oven and on the stove.

I wrapped the sweet potatoes in tin foil, ready to bake while Lorianna cut up the potatoes to boil for mashed potatoes.  At 9 AM, the turkey went into the oven.  Then at 10 AM, the baked potatoes went into the oven.  After we put the sweet potatoes in the oven, we started making up the cheese sauce for the broccoli and cauliflower.  Lorianna decorated and set the table, then went into the living room to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  When dancers came on, she started trying to copy them.  Lorianna loves trying to dance.  It is so much fun to watch her copy the dancers on TV.

After the cheese sauce was ready for the cauliflower, we didn’t really have much to do until it was time to throw everything together, so I made sure we had bowls for everything then checked on the turkey and sweet potatoes.  I once again checked to make sure we had everything we needed for the rest of the food, then sat down to check social media and e-mails.  I played a couple rounds of solitaire while Lorianna watched the parade.  At 11, it was time to start getting everything cooking.  Soon there was peas, cauliflower, and potatoes boiling on the stove.  Lorianna put the rolls into a basket while my grandmother and worked at the stove.  At 12, Sean and the kids walked in and by 12:30 everything was ready so we had everyone sit down.  There was a little bit of arguing because Lorianna wanted Kyle and Leslie to trade places, but since everyone was settled at that point, we just let every sit where they were.

The food was good and there was little conversation as everyone enjoyed their meals.  By the time everyone was done eating, there wasn’t much left over.  Dessert was either Cherry O Cream Pie or Pumpkin Pie.  After we were done eating and clean up was done, we sat and talked a while longer, and then it was time to go home.  The three girls all stayed at Grandma’s house, so it was just me, Sean and Kyle at home.  I sat down and looked through some Black Friday ads, then found something that I wanted to get for Hailie on sale at Kohl’s.

So after some debating and looking through the Kohl’s ad again, the decision was made that I would head over there for their 5pm opening.  I got there, found myself a camera drone, and Sean a couple of thermal tops, but was disappointed that they didn’t have the camera I wanted to get for Hailie.  When I got home, I decided to check online and was surprised to find that they did have the camera in stock online!  So I happily placed the order and was even happier to find out that shipping was free!  Now I have a gift for Hailie, though not sure whether it will be a Christmas or birthday gift yet.  By the time I got back from Kohl’s, I was ready to just relax, so we decided to have a Gilmore Girls Marathon.  Sean and I relaxed in bed watching Gilmore Girls.  Kyle had fallen asleep on the couch while, I was out, so it was quiet and peaceful…until he fell off the couch.  Then he came in to us and cuddled down, watching Mighty Machines on his tablet while we watched Gilmore on my laptop.  By 8 PM, I was also asleep.  We had a good Thanksgiving!

How was everyone else’s 2018 Thanksgiving?  What are your favorite dishes to have on Thanksgiving?

I have never heard of a cherry o cream pie before. It seems like you guys had awesome family time. I cooked and played games with my little family, although it was fun we were all drained from the food.

Cherry o cream pie is my very favorite! I’ll have to do a post with the recipe sometime! Even as a child, I would choose it over a cake for my birthday! We did have a great family day! Yes it is draining, but it’s a satisfied drained feeling!
